The SINTEF Group is the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia. SINTEF is a broad-based, multidisciplinary research concern with an international staff of 2100 possessing expertise in technology, medicine and the social sciences. The group is an independent, non-commercial organization. The profits from contracted research projects are invested in new research, scientific equipment and competence development.

The SINTEF Group comprises the SINTEF Foundation, four limited companies and SINTEF Holding with a combined turnover in 2011 of NOK 2.8 billion (about $450 million). SINTEF performs more than 7000 research projects for some 2300 clients annually. SINTEF also acts as an incubator for new industrial companies.
