The pending Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement opens the way for virtual or simulation testing for use in type approvals. This presentation considers the proposed amendment and its application to mechanical coupling approvals.

However, a requirement combination such as Vreq = 0.1* Vcert and Dc-req ≤ Dcert +0.1*( Dcert – Dc-cert) better reflects the real-world situation commonly found in combinations comprising a rigid truck, converter dolly, and semi-trailer.

Definition for non-standard drawbar couplings where coupling and uncoupling of the mechanical connection as well as electric and pneumatic connection is accomplished through an automated procedure.
