Mea Culpa...

31 January 2014

This is a note for Internet Explorer users who may have encountered problems with the new site. A comma (yes, just one) included in the program code caused many of the tables to break. In addition, the new code does not play well with earlier IE versions. So I provide an explanation and suggestions.

Given all the browsers now in use (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.) and the range of operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) and their versions plus the wide range of electronic devices from mobile phones to desktops, programming a website presents a challenge. In effect, each system reads the code in its own way and what works on one configuration can fail on another.

I ran some tests and have fixed a couple of bugs that were causing problems with some systems. At this point, the site appears to work properly on Firefox, Safari 5.0 and above, and on Internet Explorer 9 and above.

Nonetheless, users with older browsers such as Internet Explorer 6-8 may still run into conflicts.

GAR 4.0 was designed to adapt to various screen sizes and work across different systems using some recent advances in web design. Unfortunately, older browsers do not read this more modern code correctly.

Since I know that some users are still on older browsers, I will try to find workaround solutions as time permits.

In the meantime, if you run into problems, you may want to consider upgrading your browser to a newer version. Most browsers are available for free on the Internet.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but as a free site, GAR does not have the resources to hire outside professionals to conduct exhaustive audits and implement fixes across its hundreds of thousands of lines of code. I hope that you understand the situation.
